The French shipyard RM Yachts specialises in sporty cruising boats far removed from conventional yacht concepts. Many options for customisation and a host of unusual details on and below deck are the hallmarks. There is hardly anything quite like it. Another special feature: the multi-chine hulls are made of plywood and covered with epoxy and Kevlar, while the decks are made of GRP.
In collaboration with designer Marc Lombard, the shipyard has now given the older RM 1200 an extensive overhaul. The new RM 1260 is characterised by a number of new features compared to its predecessor. For example, the cockpit has been completely redesigned and double rudder wheels have been added. However, a tiller is still available as an option for the boat.
The rig will also be higher than on the RM 1200 and designed to be sportier. The boat will also have a fixed bowsprit for a gennaker or code zero. Like all RMs, the 1260 is also available as a chine keel (1.85 metres draft) or with a conventional fin keel (2.20 metres). Inside, the new model essentially retains the layout of its predecessor. The technical room in the stern can now be converted into an additional cabin with a double berth. And in the forward cabin there is now an island bed instead of the previous triangular berth.
The price for the RM 1260 is 228,275 euros. The first boat is due to be launched in spring 2012 and series production will then begin. Blue Yachting in Bremen has taken over sales for RM Yachts in Germany.
